Disko Kids Meets The Wikimama

Posted by Helen Dukes on

This week on the blog we spoke to Susie Lodge who is the busy Mum behind Wiki Places For Kids. If you're looking for great places to visit with the kids over the holidays - then this the place to go to find them! Lots of useful ideas & recommendations all in one place.  Tell us about Wiki Places For Kids - how did you start? When I had my first child it was not a surprise that my career was going to clash majorly with my job as a Mummy. I knew I was going to struggle with being absent for most of the week and only seeing my babies once they were tucked up in bed. So I knew early on that...

Disko Kids Mixtape - Lorna Hayward - PIZZUP

Posted by Helen Dukes on

This weeks mixtape selector is the very lovely Lorna Hayward. She’s the brains behind Pizzup & ’The Mumblings’ blog - wife to Jamie (who DJ’s at all of her parties ) & Mum to the very entertaining Marnie & Elsie. She’s also one of the warmest ladies I’ve had the pleasure to meet through the squares of Instagram & I’m chuffed to bits to have her selections for another Mixtape. Its an epic selection including one of our favourite mixtape tracks ‘We are Family’ by Sister Sledge. You can listen to Lorna's Mixtape on the Disko Kids YouTube channel.   What was the first record / CD  you ever bought?  Shit. I kind of dread this question. Do the Bartman by...

Disko Kids meets Milk at the Museum

Posted by Helen Dukes on

Sally Webb has worked in the museum industry for about 10 years. Alongside taking some time off to look after her two children she set up 'Milk at the Museum'.  The idea being she shares lots of ace knowledge on what museums have to offer for families. From events/exhibitions to the shop & facilities. She also chats to many fans of museums on her page too. Tell us a bit about Milk at the Museum – what made you want to start up?I worked for the Imperial War Museum for 10 years and when I had my kids it turned out, due to childcare costs, I couldn’t go back. The days at home were long and I really wanted to find something just...

Ivy's Library - Books to encourage Self Confidence and Individuality in toddlers.

Posted by Helen Dukes on

This weeks guest blogger is Shelley John. Shelley has a fantastic blog on books for kids. This particular post covers books to encourage self-confidence and individuality in toddlers which is great to feature during Children's mental health week. Ivy, my two-year-old daughter, is currently a big ball of confidence. I watch her run in to her dance classes, leap in to the arms of family friends, blow raspberries at strangers and wave at everyone she walks past in the street and I wonder if she will always be this sure of herself. I truly hope so, but experience tells me that somewhere in her childhood those little doubts will start to creep in as she compares herself to school friends...

Becoming One of 'Those 'Couples

Posted by Helen Dukes on

We welcome Chloë Byrne to the Disko Kids blog.   I’m Chloë. Since becoming a mum I have really felt the need to talk about stuff, stuff that affects me now, stuff that has affected me in the past, the same sort of stuff that affects thousands of other people just like me who want to be mums, or have just become mums. I now have a beautiful, fourteen month old son, but like everyone, I went on a journey to get to where I am, and if some of the things I mention help anyone or you can identify with them, then mission accomplished. I’ve felt a bit alone at times with what I've gone through over the last...
