Hi I'm Lottie, Helens daughter and I'm currently on work experience week and am taking over the blog to talk a little bit about my experiences with the child bereavement charity Winston's Wish.
When we lost my Dad in 2009 it was difficult for my mum to understand how to deal with my grief, being only 3 & a half, I wasn't fully aware of the situation we were in. Through Winston's Wish she was able to find resources and help regarding how to support me through my grief as a young child growing up bereaved.
A bit about Winston's Wish
Winston’s Wish are the UK’s first childhood bereavement charity who have been supporting grieving children and young people since 1992. They continue to lead the way in providing specialist child bereavement support services across the UK. The charity provides emotional and practical bereavement support to children, young people (up to 25) and those who care for them. Expert teams offer one off and ongoing bereavement support along with online resources, specialist publications and training for professionals.
How Disko Kids support Winston's Wish
As a company we donate part of the proceeds from every order of our Milestone Years t-shirts (last year being 1973 and 1983 and this year 1974 and 1984) and sweatshirts to Winston's Wish. Last year we were able to donate a total of £15,225 with an extra donation supporting the Christmas Disco sales of £10,000.
Q&A with Ange at Winston's Wish
I have was able to ask some questions to our contact to at Winston's Wish Ange who was able to tell us a little bit more about her role at the charity and what they do for bereaved young people
How long has Winston's Wish been going?
We celebrated our 30th year in 2022 so 32 years this year!
What age groups do you support?
We support children and young people up to the age of 25.
Tell us a bit about your role at Winston's Wish
My role is within the corporate fundraising team and I look after businesses who have chosen to support Winston’s Wish. I am a point of contact for our wonderful corporate supporters who hold bakes sales, take on physical challenges, arrange quiz nights and donate through sales of their products. I help identify and come up with lots of other exciting events and campaigns for businesses to get involved in which raise funds for the charity, help us raise awareness and support them and their employees. All of our corporate partners are unique and this makes my role varied and not one project is the same.
How many Children do you help each year on average?
Last year we supported 62,464 children and young people.
How big is the team at Winston's Wish?
We have a team of 12 on our fundraising team who are in different locations in the UK
Thanks so much to Ange for giving an insight on how the charity has developed and helped so many.
I hope this has been useful for anyone in search of support and guidance through bereavement, or just made you aware of what an incredible charity is doing to help young people through tough times.
Take a look at the Winston's Wish website here.

We can't believe that Disko Kids is turning 7!
Helen started the brand when she struggled to find anything on the high street for her kids that was original, exciting and fun. With her dj background and love for music, Disko Kids was born.
After a little time, regular requests started coming in for adult TShirts too, and before long our Women's collections became the main part the business, which has grown further to include pieces like our metallic skirts & jumpsuits, bags & jewellery.
As many small biz owners will relate - Helen started the brand working alone, being the designer, marketing department, social media manager, website builder and everything else all in one.... the team has now grown and Disko Kids employs 12 women, all but one here in Birmingham and the team continues to grow alongside the business.
To celebrate this milestone, we are bringing the disco to you (of course) and sharing some of our favourite partywear looks for the season with some styling inspiration, so you can take disco style to all your festive events this year.
Thanks so much for your support over the years, whether you are a long time customer or you have recently discovered us. As a small business, every sale, social media share, friend you have told and positive review is truly appreciated.
Love Helen & The Disko Team! xxx

]]>One of our favourite things about Summer is all the amazing music festivals up and down the country. From rock to funk to hip hop to pop, whatever music you’re into there’s bound to be somewhere fun to dance in a field and enjoy it!
Something we particularly love is getting our festival looks together before we head off. Are you all about standing out from the crowd? Or maybe more of a practical dresser? Minimalist or maximalist? Retro inspired or prefer a more contemporary vibe? Or possibly a little of everything!
We love to use our festival style to support fellow small businesses, makers and creators of unique and fabulous pieces. Here is a run down of some outfits er love, mixing Disko Kids pieces with some of our faves.

I thought I'd show & tell you a little bit about the journey that our mosaic print collection has had, from the idea in my head for garments to wear alongside the T's and sweatshirts, to the finished pieces.
Lets go back - way back - I've always loved fashion - from making my Sindy dolls little outfits as a kid, on my Mums Bernina sewing machine - to making a copy of a very basic Vivienne Westwood, jersey dress my friend Karyn had in the early 90's. I was no seamstress but loved having a go. Roll on 30 years ( yikes! ) & here I am using a little bit of everything I've learnt in my life to making my first garments for Disko Kids.
I stated this process just as we moved into the new unit (which in hindsight was probably very bad timing) There's lots of work that has needed to go into this process. Elizabeth Styles helped me begin the process of finding someone to guide me through - That person was Sara Collins who has helped me understand all the important steps in the process of manufacturing the garments from finding the right ethically run factory, to the attention to detail on sampling the products and fabric we were going to chose.
Next up was getting a tech pack for the factory to work from. I knew I wanted a big frill on the waistband and for it to be elasticated! & pockets were non-negotiable! I love a more relaxed style and I wanted something to dress up or down.
Lottie Woods helped with this & produced the the tech pack, we started to get samples of the garments that we were going to produce. There were originally 3 garments (also a dress to come but luckily that's on hold until the Spring )
I sourced and bought the print design for the fabric through someone that a Disko Kids team member had worked with - so you know you wont see the same print elsewhere. This run is again limited.
This release includes a new mosaic print dress, featuring adjustable straps, a 3/4 length and of course, pockets!
Kerry wardrobeofamidlifecrisis (above) looks fab in hers!
I hope you like the pieces as much as I've loved creating them.

For this edition of 'Super Stylin' we caught up with Disko Kids' friend, Laura Fawcett @laurafawcett_style
Laura is a Personal Stylist who has been running her own business for 5 years and is mum to two young children Laina & Flyn.
She is passionate about helping men & women reconnect with their sense of style and works collaboratively with them to improve confidence and self esteem with the aim of learning how to express their personality through the clothes that they wear.
Tell us about your style
My style personality is relaxed & creative and my looks can vary day by day as I like my style to represent my mood and work for whatever activity I’m doing.
On styling days it’s mainly colour blocking or print clashing with metallic accessories and on my mum days it’s more likely to be a boiler suit or chunky knitwear & printed trousers so I’m comfy and practical.
Who are your fashion heroes?
Roisin Murphy is a total style icon and her stage style is totally bonkers which I love, I love Fearne Cotton’s relaxed & effortless vibe and I’ve always been a massive fan of Keith Richards’ style across the decades - always preferred him to Mick!
Who do you love following on social media?
Candice Braithwaite is absolutely hilarious! I also adore her style and admire her confidence.
I also love Erica Davies, @alexandrasteadman @girlwithbellsandwhistles and @meganellaby as they all have amazing and realistic style for every day life but all put their unique twist on their looks.
What are your ‘must have’ items for 2023?
I’m a firm believer on adding anything that I’m tempted to buy on my wish list that’s saved on my notes in my phone for two weeks before buying it. If after the two weeks I still need & want it then I’m allowed.
Currently on my list are;
Amy Lynn gold metallic trousers
Bright blue adidas wide leg trackies
Some new replacement black platform sandals
And a bright yellow beanie
This way it helps to keep you in check ensuring that you are not over consuming and are more likely to make better choices when shopping.
Which other brands do you love to wear?
I’m a big fan of a charity shop, have had lots of success in Mango and &Other Stories, over the last couple of years and brands that I love but tend to save up as a real treat would be Essentiel Antwerp & Bimbaylola
What are your top 3 tracks?
Wow that’s a tough one as to narrow it down is an almost impossible tasks but let’s go with these which are definitely up there in my top tunes;
D- Train - 'You’re The One For Me' as that was the first dance at our wedding
Sydney Youngblood - 'If Only I Could' - reminds me of an amazing night out with all my besties in Manchester
N Joi - 'Anthem' which is my fav classic dance tune of all time
Thanks so much Laura, we have loved chatting to you! Gold metallic trousers sound like a great wardrobe addition and what fab tracks, always so hard to pick!
Look out for Laura styling some fab Disko Kids pieces over on her instagram @laurafawcett_style

It's official - we are wearing trainers with absolutely everything! Ok we do love a boot and a sandal too, but trainers are our definite fave.
Of course, we wear them with our jeans and tees, but in 2023 anything goes with a classic trainer. A rare, recent Saturday night out proved this to me further, none of those dress codes from my youth seem to be in place any more... remember the days of 'no blue denim' 'no sports shoes'!?
So be it for day or evening, office or bar - comfy chic all the way!
Helen & I are huge trainer fans, so it has been tricky to pick only a few we love - I think the list could go on for longer, but we have edited down to the ones we love the most & tried to cover all areas.
Here are some of our current faves...
Enjoy! xx
A Little Colour
Brighten up any outfit with a fab, colourful pair of trainers, we particularly love them with a plain suit and of course a Disko Kids tee.
Saucony Jazz Lilac
0-105 Jade Trainers
saucony jazz triple (Helen's favourite!)
Adidas Shock Purple Gazelles
H & M Silver & Hot pink Trainer 24.99! currently sold out but this season
Flower Mountain Washi Orange & Fuschia trainers
Adidas Gazelle Indoor trainers
Nike Waffle One Trainers, Off Noir Pink Prime Summit White
M. Moustache Fuschia & Dusty Blue
0 105 Trek Up Contrast
Thicker Soles
Providing a little extra height but sportier and more classic than a full platform, we do love a chunky sole...
Autry Medalist Low Tops
Adidas Originals Ozweego - both retro and futuristic at the same time!
A Trainer Staple
Everyone needs a pair of Converse in their wardrobe they go with everything.
Here's Kerry @wardrobeofamidlifecrisis in hers alongside the Mosaic skirt which we have a new drop of this Spring.

Taking it back to the 90's with the Nike Air Max 97

March the 8th every year is 'International Women's Day', a global holiday to commemorate the cultural, political and socioeconomic achievements of women, and we love to celebrate it here as Disko Kids.
Each year we release a limited edition print, featuring some of the greatest female recording artists from the last few decades - here are some of our previous designs, celebrating the singer songwriters who paved the way for future generations....
Personally, I don't remember International Women's Day being around much when I was younger, I have asked a few of the team here and they have said the same. I looked up the history of this day and apparently it was first celebrated in 1911! We had no idea!
So we have some catching up to do, but I will definitely be speaking to my husband and kids about the importance of this day, so they have memories and learnings to carry with them and to look back on when they are older.
This year, we have released these special designs in the fabulous raspberry cropped sweatshirt and our classic black & white TShirt.
Perhaps next year we can add some new names - let us know in the comments who you would love to see featured!
We are also excited to be supporting the charity Womankind Worldwide, who do amazing work to support and empower women across the world. With £4 from the sale of every Women In Music Sweatshirt and £2 from every Women In Music TShirt going directly to the charity, we really feel that this is an important and necessary cause.
We hope you love the designs as much as we do, and enjoy however you choose to mark International Women's Day.

We caught up with Kerry Norman, the artist behind our new 'Stoned' collab tees.
Also known as the rather fabulous @wardrobeofamidlifecrisis, we have been huge fans of Kerry for a long time and love her unique style alongside her fun and colourful approach to fashion - taking inspiration for outfits from the music she loves and supporting small businesses along the way.
Teacher by day and dancer by night, Kerry sat down with Disko Kids so we could find out more!
Tell us a little bit about the design you’ve done?
The design is inspired by one of my favourite bands that have been playing epic music since the 60's. Can you guess who?! It's a pen fine line design.
Tell us about your style
Well a stylist told me recently that I am a 'creative' with 'a bit of urban!' Basically I love colour, band tees and pattern!
Who are your fashion heroes?
Kate Moss
Jo Whiley
What are your ‘must have’ items for 2023?
More band tees! And a pink bomber jacket is on my list.
Which other brands do you love to wear?
I love small indie brands like St Berts for amazing retro colour and Esska beautiful metallic footwear. My favourite larger brand is Stella Nova and Bella Freud.
What are your top 3 tracks?
The Eagles Hotel California
Sugarhill Gang Rappers Delight
Foo fighters The Pretender
Thanks so much Kerry for your time, we have loved learning more about you - what a great track list too!
Our 'Stoned' collab tee is available now - we know you'll love it as much as we do!

'.......Get up on your feet, yeah, step to the beeeaaat'
I don't know about you but whenever I hear this song, or even just the words 'get into the groove' I immediately have to sing out loud (apologies to my Disko Kids colleagues!) and start my own kitchen disco / karaoke spectacular, even if only for the duration of the lyrics I can remember without looking them up.
We hope you love our new 'Get Into The Groove' TShirts and Sweatshirts as much as we do!
Whether you're dancing at home in the kitchen, out for day or evening, we have made sure your will be grooving all the way.

Love it or loathe it, Valentines Day is upon us!
A quick survey of our Disko Kids unit suggests that many of us are not really doing a whole lot for Valentines this year, myself included. So we collectively decided that instead, we treat ourselves.
As we emerge from those January blues with our dark Winter wares and start to get excited about Spring, the classic Valentines palette of soft pinks, reds and dusky purples does seem particularly appealing... I definitely can't wait to throw on a trench coat instead of a puffer and have fun with more minimal layering and fun colour combinations.
Trainers - Esska Shoes
There's also something about this time of year that makes me want a few little updates to my jewellery collection for the Spring & Summer days (and nights) to come - so if you do want to drop a hint to someone special, treat one of your favourite gal pals, or yourself (like we decided will be doing over here at DKHQ) do check out our extensive range, including new brand Big Metal London - I've got my eye on the silver Hexagon Bracelet and will definitely be layering some of those fabulous chains!
Silver Hexagon Delicate Bracelet
White Trousers - Zara
Gold Oval Links T-Bar Chain Bracelet
White Trainers - Reebok
Do check out our fabulous 'Love Edit' - there are many options to mix into your existing wardrobes to take you from Valentines through Spring and beyond.
Lots of love from the Disko Kids team xxx

Happy 'big' birthday year to all us 83 & 73 babies!
I am one of those too! ( Gemma here ) With the big 4 - 0 approaching and as I start to attend parties and celebrations for friends of the same age, I am reminded of a quote I saw a while back:
'Life really does begin at 40. Up until then, you are just doing research!'
I'm definitely ready to embrace this new chapter and see what fun my 40's has to bring - still ready to party (albeit with a tad less booze and perhaps a little (ok a lot) earlier a finish time) and be proud of the experience that got me here!
What better gift for a friend with a similar outlook, whether they are approaching 40 or 50, they can wear their birth year with pride and style. It makes me smile seeing my year all around our Disko Kids unit :)
And dont forget we donate £2 from every 1973 T-shirt sold to our chosen charity Winstons Wish. Helping children who have lost a loved one.
We would love to know in the comments how you plan to celebrate your 'big' birthday!

]]>This week on the blog Keira O'mara ( Scott-Samuel ) sharing her picks to style with the vintage white 1972 Sweatshirt, 'Love is' & Ziggy Eyes T-shirts.
We asked her a few questions about her style loves and the all important question party in or out?
Describe your style ?
A real mix depending on my mood and ever evolving! I would not say I have one style. I tend to veer towards casual more than dressed up although I do love dressing up. My wardrobe is a mix of vintage, independent brands, and high street with the odd designer piece.
Who are some of your favourite brands ?
Independent brands I love are LOWIE, Project AJ117,
Zara, Cos, Whistles and H&M for High Street. Lindex is great for Scandi style at high street prices and they are really sustainable.
Please tell us 3 things about you? oooh....
1. I am originally from Liverpool and went to the same primary and secondary school as John Lennon!
2.I did a season in Ibiza 25 years ago and had various jobs, including being a dancer at Manumission!
3. I started sharing my outfit pics on Instagram less than a year ago and loved it so much that it led to me launching a new business around it. www.scott-samuel.co.uk
What music do you listen to? I used to go clubbing in my late teens and twenties and still love a lot of the 90's club classics., they make great exercise tunes for kitchen HIIT! 70's disco is definitely the most listened to in our house now though.
Who were your fashion heroes when you were a kid? I loved Martika's haircut and took a picture of her to the hairdressers to copy her hair! Fashion-wise got to be Madonna, style icon!
Party Out or party at home? Both!! I do like a party at home with friends but the last few years (and having a toddler) I definitely don't get out as much so I am going to say party out!
I have styled the 1972 sweatshirt and it seemed only fitting to go full on 70’s style for this with flares, big sunglasses, a head scarf and clogs. The brown twill flares from H&M are a fab shape and come in loads of different colours and they are a bargain at £12.99. They are on the longish side for me at 5 ft 5.5 so I have paired with my clogs to give me a bit of height. Wearing with my embroidered flower socks. Brown leather belt, head scarf, sunglasses, leather bucket bag and gold jewellery all from Scott-Samuel.
Next up is the LOVE T and I could not decide so here it is styled a couple of different ways…
I love it with leather trousers, so the three looks revolve around that (mine are Lindex). First up with an oversized blazer. Mine was preloved on EBay but there are loads on the high street at the moment. Check out Zara and H&M for some good options. I have added a metallic clutch (this one is from Scott-Samuel), big earrings and big glasses. I love this for a night out with boots or heels but it looks great with trainers too. The other look is more definitely more casual…. Am I too early to say “festival ready” and I have gone for an military style shirt (mine is old and was bought in Italy)
River Island have this similar army shacket.
The orange leather bumbag gives a pop of colour and I’ve styled with gold earrings, necklace and bracelets.
Finally the Bowie T which is a gorgeous blue/grey, so I have styled with a fabulous grey tulle skirt from Law & Co (they have a great selection of tulle skirts), a leather biker jacket and a pink clutch. Apparently biker jackets are going to be everywhere this year. I didn’t know they had ever gone away! I have worn mine for the last 10+ years and consider it a staple part of my wardrobe. This is actually an upgrade to my trusty biker and I got it on EBay, so if you are looking for a biker jacket I highly recommend looking at pre loved styles as you will get a lot more for your money. This is a Whistles one, All Saints are also always good. My glasses are the oversized square retro from Scott-Samuel. This outfit I am wearing with trainers but it works with chunky boots, flats, heels, sandals….
Now I just need a party invite! xx
