Influenced by Scandi style and simple design, The Little Jones creates fun and modern prints which are the perfect addition to any room or nursery. We caught up for a chat with founder and mum-of-one Kate to talk all things small business, inspiration, and what's coming up next...

Tell us about The Little Jones - how did you start?

I started The Little Jones whilst on maternity leave with my son. It began as a bit of a hobby and something I loved doing and I’m so humbled that it has become my business.

Do you have any kids?

I have one little boy called Harry who is 20 months old and a complete whirlwind!

How do you fit your work around Harry?

I try to complete my orders during Harry’s nap time every morning and then do the post office run with him in the afternoon. Then designing, emails and admin is done in the evenings when he’s in bed! I also have amazing parents who help me out when they can.

Where do you find inspiration?

Everywhere! I take a sketchbook pretty much everywhere with me and have folders in my phone of photos and notes so I can write down ideas as they come to me. My husband is always telling me to stop taking photos of random things when we’re out and about!

What did you do before setting up The Little Jones - did you study design?

I was a primary school teacher before I had Harry but I’ve always done bits of designing here and there and I studied it for A-Level.

Any other independent brands you’d like to spread the word about?

There are so many amazing brands that I’ve come across since starting The Little Jones, mainly through Instagram. Wonder and Rah and Oso Twee are two other print brands that I love. For décor you can’t go wrong with La La Loves Décor or Never Perfect Studio. For children’s bits and bobs Disko Kids is obviously a favourite, along with Mama Designs and Baby Dee & Me. A few other favourites are Love for the Mama, The Paper Party Company, Mabel & Fox and Daisies & Dinosaurs.

What kind of music do you listen to?

Anything and everything depending on my mood. Current favourites are Haim, Little Mix and Rolling Stones!

Have your kids inherited your music taste?

I’ve no idea about his music taste yet, but Harry is a great little mover! Every time he hears a beat he has to stop to dance!

Party out or party at home - Discuss!

As with many parents, I used to be party out, but these days it’s more party at home! I think it makes me appreciate the party out nights even more.

What’s next for The Little Jones?

I have so many plans for The Little Jones! It’s our 1st birthday in August, so I’m busy planning that. Most of our current designs are monochrome, but we have some new colourful prints being released soon and we’ll hopefully be expanding in to stationery in the near future. There are also some exciting collaborations in the pipeline!
