I thought I might give my own mixtape selections this week with the launch of the 'Mixtape' collaboration with the fantastic Coco and Indie. I've always loved a mixtape and probably putting music together in my teenage years was the first steps to me wanting to become a DJ. In my youth I would always do a mixtape for boyfriends when I first met them & for many of my girlfriends too over the years.

So here's my selection of some of the music that rocks my world. These are just some of my favourite tracks but there are so many!

You can listen to all the tracks on the Disko Kids channel here

What was the first record you ever bought?

John Travolta & Olivia Newton John - Summer Nights . I played this 7" to death when I first bought it. My then 2 or 3 year old Sister unfortunately trod on it and broke the record in half  - I vividly remember trying to cellotape it back together again - & being devastated it didn't fix it.

What was the first gig you went to?

Bloody Genesis ! - I didn't even like Genesis at the time. I was asked if I'd like to go with a new girl at school so went. I love seeing live music now and probably should have appreciated that gig more.

Party out or Kitchen Disco?

Party Out !! having 2 kids and older parents who have done their baby sitting duties in earlier years means we don't get to go out much - I'd love to go to a festival more than anything now and I do love a dance.

Track 1

Madonna - Borderline - I loved Madonna as a teenager and this gets me every time.

Track 2

Ten City - That's the way Love Is   Always this mix x Me and my besties dance around like idiots to this & sing this at the top of our voices when ever we're together - which isn't often enough.

Track 3  Karen Young - Deetour

I found this late but when I did I must have played it thousands of times to make up for it. Love it.

Track 4

One Dove Fallen ( Andrew Weatherall mix ) One of my more down tempo favourites.

Track 5 Wham Freedom

Because you always need a bit of Wham on a mixtape.

Track 6

Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes - Don’t leave me this way

Just love the way this builds and always gets me singing.

Track 7

David Bendeth - feel The Reel ( Jazz & groove mix)

I'm a sucker for a bit of piano in a track.

Track 8

Last Rhythm  - Last Rhythm

Clubbing & raving days memories

Track 9

Sister Sledge - We Are Family

I love literally everything Nile Rodgers has produced but this is the best - just the most infectious melody and lyrics.

Track 10

Phil Oakey & Giorgio Moroder - Together in Electric Dreams

It's been mine and my best friends Karyn & Ange's tune since our hedonistic days in the 90s  - then when I met Chris I found out it was one of his favourite records also . When he proposed to me in a club a few years ago - just before I was about to DJ this is what he chose to be played after he got down on one knee.

Hope you like the selections xx
